Larry Coryell-The Real Great Escape

original

Although he is primarily known as a Jazz guitarist this record is definetely rock. This record was released in 1973 and I bought it in 1976. Every track features some awesome guitar, either electric or acoustic. His solos could put many rock guitarists to shame. All the songs have vocals by Larry, not the best singer but not too bad. There are two ballads on the record “Love’s Life’s Offering” that shows off his acoustic playing and “All My Loves Laughter” with piano backing ending in an electric guitar solo. “Scotland II” on side two co-written with then wife Julie Coryell is my favorite on the record and has a blistering solo in it. The record ends with a cover of Jimmy Webb’s “P.F. Sloan”. The title tack is also a Fusion tour de force with a long guitar jam at the end. Although there is a sax player in the band he is put to limited use. This record is a favorite of mine and was played hundreds of times back in the day. No skips
