Chicago-Chicago VII

Another double album after two single albums came out in 1974. I like it much better than their last record. The first record is mostly Jazz Funk Rock instrumentals not unlike the music of Mahavishnu Orchestra or Weather Report. Terry Kath has some nice guitar solos and new percussionist Laudir de Oliveira is featured throughout the record. The second record yielded three hits “(I’ve Been) Searching For So Long”,”Call On Me”,and “Wishing You Were Here” with the Beach Boys on backing vocals. Side three also has two good Terry Kath songs “Song Of The Evergreens” and “Byblos”. I bought this used in 2019 and the sticker on the back of the album says it’s from a library. The cover and records are in like new condition. After this record Peter Cetara’s ballads started to dominate their hits, much to the chagrin of Lamm and Kath. The band was dealt a serious blow with the accidental suicide of Terry Kath in early 1978. The band was never the same even venturing into Disco in the late 70’s.
