This is the second release from The Mekons which came out in 1980. This 1997 re-issue on Quarterstick Records forgoes the longer title calling it simply The Mekons and adds two bonus tracks. Jon Langford and Tom Greenhalgh were in a group of musicians at The University Of Leeds in the late 70’s. Jon and Tom formed The Mekons others formed Gang of Four. Jon and Tom have been the only constant members in their 40 plus year history although singer Sally Timms and fiddle player Susie Honeyman have been members since the mid 80’s. This CD is an interesting mis of Punk and New Wave. Most tracks are around 3 minutes or under. I must say after listening to five of their CDs except for Fear and Whiskey this is the one I liked best. All sound good to me and this CD begs another listen. “Karen” is the one that iI thought sounded best.
