An English Folk singer this ,his first release Sophisticated Beggar, came out in late 1966. He re-issued it in 1971 as The Return Of… Reading his bio in my Rock Discography he had an interesting early life. His mother died giving birth. He joined the R.A.F. at 15 then pleaded insanity to get out. Was put in a mental hospital and received shock treatment. He escaped and started busking in the early 60’s. Musically his style was like other Folk musicians at the time like Bert Jansch or John Renbourn. Although not Traditional songs his originals were in that style. Accompanying himself on acoustic guitar he supposedly had Renbourn and Ritchie Blackmore helping him. All tracks are pretty good. “Committed” deals with his time in a mental hospital. “Blackpool” has a long guitar intro before a few sung verses. “October The 12th” sounds a lot like Roger Waters song “Grantchester Medows” from Pink Floy’s Ummagumma album. Harper sang the lead on “Have A Cigar”. He has put out over 20 albums, the last in 2013. I had another CD of his but it must have been sold.
