He is a Brazilian acoustic guitarist. This is :rarum XI in the ECM :rarum collection. The music here is more World Music than Jazz, although he has played in a few Jazz Combos. “Cavaquinho” and “Landu” are solo guitar compositions. The most Jazz sounding pieces are “10 Anos” where he plays piano in a quartet with sax, bass and drums and “Frevo” playing piano with an orchestra, The final track “Selva Amazonica” is a 20 minute solo composition where he plays guitar, surdo and bells. Some nice relaxing music and as always a great sounding CD with the usual booklet with a bio of the artist, comments by Gismonti and extensive liner notes.
