John Fahey- The legend Of Blind Joe Death

Fahey is an acoustic guitarist and a pioneer of the fingerstyle guitar playing. Blind Joe Death was recorded in 1959 at his home in Tacoma Park, Maryland. One side of the record was credited to him the other to a musician he had discovered Blind Joe Death. Ment to be kind of a joke some people believed it especially when the liner notes told of Death’s exploits. Only about 100 were pressed and copies are very rare today. In 1964 while going to U.C. Berkley he re-recorded the album and later in 1967 he released another version, this time in stereo. This CD is a compilation of the ’64 and ’67 releases. These are all instrumental recordings in the style of Early Blues from the 20’s and 30’s. I’m no guitar player but many are slow and seem they would be easy to play. Some are faster and more adventurous. “The Transcendental Waterfall” from the 1959 session is 10 and a half minutes of different styles and tempos and is the most interesting track. The original recording is much acclaimed and was added to The United States National Recording Registry in 2010.
