Ani Difranco-So Much Shouting, So Much Laughter

A singer/songwriter from Buffalo, Ani Difranco is social activist and feminist. Many of her songs deal with sexism, racism, abortion, poverty, war and homophobia. I had about 7 or 8 of her releases on CD and cassette(I’m not sure why). The cassettes were sold but I still have all the CDs including 3 live recordings. This double CD was recorded between 2000 and 2002 on her own Righteous Babe label and feature a six piece band with trumpets, sax, and keyboards. She employs a fast, fingerpicking style on her acoustic guitar. Some of her singing is almost in a Rap style. Some of the backing instrumentation has a Jazz sound. I have listened to the first CD before and really liked “Grey”. Love the horns and piano. It’s on my playlist. “Napoleon” is another good one. Some of her older songs that appeared on her earlier live CD living in clip get different arrangements like “Dilate”, “32 Flavors”, “Not A Pretty Girl”, and “Letter To A John”. Not a bad CD but her guitar playing sounds to repetitive after a while.
