Joan Armatrading-Whatever’s For Us

This is her first album from 1972. I’ve always liked her and had a few of her releases on vinyl and cassette. Written with Pam Nester a friend she met while both were in the musical Hair in 1969. Joan plays guitar and piano on most of the songs which are in the Folk tradition. A couple sound influenced by Elton John and perhaps Tracey Chapman was influenced by her. “Visionary Mountains” is one I knew because it was on Manfred Mann’s Nightingales And Bombers album. A pretty good album this CD is a 2001 remaster on the Metro label a London Based company with two bonus tracks. There is a fold out booklet with a brief history of Joan plus commentary of each track by Michael Heatley, some kind of Rock historian. Bought at Borders, like many others, and for some reason I specifically remember buying this CD and opening in the car to look at it.
