Neil Young-Rust Never Sleeps

This record was recorded live at various venues in ’77 and ’78. Side one contains solo acoustic performances by Neil. Nicolette Larson plus a drummer and base player appear on “Sail Away”. Side two is recorded with Crazy Horse. The record opens with the acoustic version of “My My Hey Hey Out Of The Blue)” and ends with the electric version “Hey Hey My My (Into The Black)”. The electric version has become a Rock classic. I don’t really care for the acoustic side much but “Ride My Llama” and “Pocahontas” aren’t too bad. The electric side has four awesome songs. “Powerfinger” another one of his more popular songs and a personal favorite because of the line “I just turned 22 , I was wondering what to do”. I bought the record when it came out in June of ’79. I was living at the Pyle St. house and I had also just turned 22 and was feeling the same way. After five years working as a cook I was getting nowhere so I decided to go to the Wilmington Skills center the following year and learn a trade. One of the best things I did. That song has been covered many times, I saw Grace Potter sing it when she played at the bandshell in Reading. The Australian band Powderfinger got their name from the song. “Welfare Mothers” and “Sedan Delivery” are great Rockers and the record ends with the forementioned “Hey Hey My My”. The album Live Rust was released later that year, one I also bought but later sold.
