Neil Young-Time Fades Away

A Live album recorded in 1973 at various dates, most in the West of the U.S. This was after the release of Harvest with The Stray Gators as his back-up band. These are all new songs played for the first time. I originally bought a used copy of this record in ’86 or ’87 when I was living in Claymont Delaware but sold it at some time. This is part of the Neil Young Archives Original Release Series Disc 5 that was released as a box set in 2014. The records were also released individually. It comes with a large fold out poster with lyrics and liner notes. Neil was dissatisfied with it and had not been reissued since 1982 and not released on CD until 2017. The Stray Gators give it a Country Rock sound heard on side one. The title track is a good one and “Journey Through The Past” is a song that didn’t make it on the album of the same name. Side two is more rocking with “Don’t Be Denied” an autobiographical song about his early years in Canada. “The Bridge” is a solo Neil Young performance with him singing and playing piano and harmonica. The Bridge School was a organization to held children suffering from speech and physical impediments founded by Neil’s wife at the time Pegi at which Neil and other artists performed benefit concerts for. I had a cassette of one of the shows and “The Bridge” was the first song performed. The last song on the record “Last Dance” is the best. At over 8 minutes Neil plays some guitar reminiscent of “Down By The River”.
