Yo La Tengo-Fakebook

Yo La Tengo (Spanish for I got It) is a band from Hoboken New Jersey comprised of married couple Ira Kaplan and Georgia Hubley along with many different bass players. I have 10 of their CDs which somehow survived the big sell off in 2013. This is the first of theirs I bought on vinyl. It’s a 2014 reissue of this 1990 release, their fourth. It’s a great collection of mostly acoustic, Folky songs. Sometime collaborator Dave Schramm plays some guitar and Al Greller plays stand up bass. There are three unreleased songs by the band and two re-workings of older songs. There are 11 covers of mostly obscure songs by Gene Clark, Cat Stevens, Ray Davies, John Cale and others. One I really like is “The One To Cry” by The Escorts, a Merseybeat band from the early 60’s.”Emulsified” is a R & B song from the 50’s with female back-up singers. The origins of the songs are written on the record sleeve. A great record I always enjoy listening to.
