Yes-90215

After the Drama tour the band broke up. Squire and White recruited South African guitarist Trevor Rabin and keyboard player Tony Kaye, who had left Yes in 1971, and began working on a record under the name Cinema. When Jon Anderson returned as singer they went back to the Yes name. Trevor Horn produced the album and for one the cover was not done by Hipgnosis or Roger Dean but some kind of computer generated image. The title is the Atco Records catalog number. This is a Pop and Rock album leaving their Progressive elements behind. It became their biggest selling record. Although it has a release date of November ’83 I bought a cassette copy in August along with new releases by Genesis, Robert Plant and Duran Duran to listen to on my way to Quincy Mass. for my job at the shipyard. I always liked this record, more than Drama, although it’s more Pop than anything the songs are intricate enough to give them that Yes sound. “Owner Of A Lonely Heart” was a big hit and video on MTV. Other favorites are “Leave It”, “City Of Love”, “Changes” and “Hearts”. They made one more record with this line-up Big Generator which I had but later sold. Anderson left again to work with former members Bill Bruford, Rick Wakeman ans Steve Howe. They put out a record and toured while Squire, White, Kaye and Rabin worked on a new record. The two factions of the group eventually joined to put out the record Union that I bought on cassette. Not a very good record but I still bought their next two on cassette and the the two Keys To Ascension and Magnification on CD. Jon Anderson is touring now with a group of muscians playin Yes songs while Yes with Steve Howe the only long standing member is also touring at this time. Chris Squire the only original member to play in every incarnation of the band died in 2015, drummer Alan White died in 2022.
