Wishbone Ash-There’s The Rub

Original

This record from late ’74 is the first with new guitarist Laurie Wisefield who replaced Ted Turner. Wisefield had been in a band called Home that also featured future AC/DC bassist Cliff Williams. I liked this better than Wishbone Four. The songs are longer, three on each side, with a sound more like Argus. “Silver Shoes” the first on side one is a return to form with some soloing by Powell and Wisefield and also playing in harmony. “Don’t Come Back” is a good rocker and “Persephone” is a ballad, but a good one. “Hometown” on side two is another uptempo track, “Lady Jay” is a Folk song and the last track is F.U.B.B. This acronym stands for Fucked Up Beyond Belief and it is a 9 minute instrumental that slowly builds to a two guitar attack and ends with someone blowing a raspberry. Another cover by Hipsnosis it shows a cricket player holding a cricket ball. This is another record in bad shape. I must have played these Wishbone Ash records really hard. I’ll have to check out Record Connection in Ephrata and see what Wishbone Ash records they have.
