Tina Turner-Private Dancer

Anyone who watched MTV in 1984 has seen the video for “What’s Love Got To Do With It”. It seemed like it was played every hour. I remember watching the bio-pic of the same name at a drive in theatre in 1993 shortly after moving to Reading from Philly. “Better Be Good To Me” and the title track were also in heavy rotation on MTV. This record was responsible for a resurgence in her career and was one of the best selling albums of 1984. It’s a great collection of Rock, Soul, Funk and Pop. Members of The Fix contribute to “I Might Have Been Queen” and “Better Be Good To Me”. Members of Dire Strait play on “Steel Claw” and “Private Dancer” written by Mark Knofler. That Jazzy track has a sax solo and a guitar solo by Jeff Beck. “Better Be Good To Me” was written by the songwriting team of Chapman/Chinn and Holly Knight who had her own great album with her band Device a few years later. Also on the record is her cover of Al Green’s “Let’s Stay Together” and Bowie’s “1984”. Not sure when I bought this but looking at the condition of the cover I would say at least 30 years ago. The foreign editions of the record had a different cover and added The Beatles “Help”.
