Thin Lizzy-The Collection

Thin Lizzy is a band from Dublin Ireland. This one from The Collector Series features songs from their first three albums released from 1971 to 1973. At this time the band was a trio of Phil Lynott on bass and vocals, Eric Bell on guitar and Brian Downey on drums. Pretty much unknown in the U.S. at this time it would be a couple years until the release of their Jailbreak album which brought them worldwide fame. Most of these tracks are what you would call Hard Rock with most relying on Bell’s guitar as the main instrument. “Little Girl In Bloom” is an exception a slower song and one I always liked. “The Rocker” from their third album is the one people would know from this collection, I have heard it played on Sirius/XM radio . “Whisky In The Jar” is a traditional song probably best known for Metalica’s version of it, this one is not too different. “Buffalo Gal” and “Ray Gun” are also two I like. I do remember buying this one, another new one, in 1986 at the store on Penny Hill. Looking at the songs on the back of the gatefold cover I saw “Sarah” with a copyright date of 1979. One of my favorite songs from their 1979 record Black Rose. This is actually a different “Sarah” from their second album from 1972. I guess whoever wrote the liner notes was confused also.
