Them-The Collection

A band from Belfast featuring Van Morrison. These tracks are from 1964-1967. Most are Blues, R&B, or Pop covers although 7 of the 24 songs were written by Van Morrison. Most of the songs are from Them’s first two albums after which Morrison left for a solo career. Some of the songs on this two record set are “Baby Please Don’t Go”, “Bright Lights Big City, “Stormy Monday”, “I Put A Spell On You”, “Babyb What You Want Me To Do”, and “Route 66(Get Your Kicks On”. They also cover Dylan’s “It’s All Over Now Baby Blue”. “Turn On Your Lovelight” is also on here, a song I have only heard The Grateful Dead’s version of with Pigpen’s ad-lib vocals. Of Van’s songs of course there is “Gloria”, covered by everybody, and “Mystic Eyes” another great song.”The Story Of Them”, kind of a talking Blues song sounds like it came right off of Astral Weeks, and “Hey Girl” a quiet song with piano sounds like it could have come from his Into The Music album. It;s a good collection, my Great Rock Discography gives this one an 8 out of 10 rating. This looks to be a new one I bought as I can see no evidence of a price sticker on it, probably bought at the store on Penny Hill when I was living in Claymont in 1986-1987.
