The Television Personalities-My Dark Places

Television Personalities are a band from England. I think I still have a couple of their CDs and I used to have a cassette of their 1992 album Closer To God. The CDs were from the early 80’s. They play a kind of Punk and 60’s Psychedelic music with a bit of humor mixed in. The CDs and cassette all had some good songs on them. I found this record at Jupiter Records that used to be on Marsh Road in Delaware. It was from 2006 and still had original members Dan Treacy and Ed Ball listed as members plus another man and a woman. Recorded after Treacy spent 6 years in prison for theft. This is a bizarre and unusual record. 16 songs in different styles with their singing and playing all over the place. I have played side one a couple of times since buying this in 2016. “Special Chair” sounds like it could have been a Velvet Underground song. There is a song called “Velvet Underground” done in a lounge singer style. “Sick Again” and “Dream The Sweetest Dreams” are strange ballads. “All The Young Children On Crack”, “Ex-Girlfriend Club” and “I’m Not Your Typical Boy” are really off the wall with as much speaking as singing. The first song on side two “You Kept Me Waiting Too Long” is the most normal sounding song on the record. Not a record I would want to listen to often but might keep it as a novelty.
