Budgie-Never Turn Your Back on a Friend

original

This is the third album from this power trio from Wales which came out in 1973. Often compared to Rush because of bass player Burke Shelly’s high pitched voice, similar to Geddy Lee’s. Starting out in the late 60’s this band has put out many albums with many line-up changes. They are still probably active today in some form. This record has the classic line-up of Shelly,Bourge, and Williams active from 68’to 78′.This is the only record I ever heard by them and it is a very good one. “Breadfan” is one of their best known songs and covered by Metallica. There is a killer cover of “Baby Please Don’t Go” and three other good Hard Rock Heavy Metal songs. There are also two acoustic songs, one a nice love song “You Know I’ll Always Love You” that I put on one of my Mellow Tunes cassette tapes. It also has a great Roger Dean cover that I had hanging on my wall at some point.
