Talking Heads-The Name Of This Band Is Talking Heads

I bought this record right around the time I was married in 1982. I remember playing this at the apartment in Newark Delaware after a year in Havre de Grace Md., still working at the shipyard in Port Deposit. A great record by a great band. The first record has performances from ’77-’79 featuring the original line-up of David Byrne, Jerry Harrison and married couple Tina Weymouth and Chris Frantz. Definitely a New Wave or Punk sound on these early recordings, songs like “A Clean Break(Let’s Work), “Pulled Up”, “Artists Only”, “Stay Hungry”, and the minor hit “Psycho Killer” show their sound to good effect. The second record is from their ’80 to ’81 tour with a ten piece band. This expanded line-up added more percussion and a more Funk and World Music sound. Guitarist Adrian Belew who had earlier played with Frank Zappa and later King Crimson plays some solos in “Crosseyed And Painless” with backing vocals throughout by Nona Hendrix of Labelle fame and Dolette McDonald. Bernie Worrell plays keyboards. back then I usually played the earlier record but this second record is just as good. “I Zimbra” and “Houses In Motion” are good as well as their hits “Life During Wartime” and Their cover of “Take Me To The River” The records themselves sound very good, again they don’t make them like they used to.
