Status Quo-The Collection

The most recent addition to The Collector series this was bought about five years ago at the store in West Reading. As usual it’s a two record set with a gatefold cover and imported from England. There are 24 songs on this album from the late 60’s to the early 70’s. “Pictures Of Matchstick Men” from 1968 ,their only U.S. hit, is included here plus other Psychedelic tunes from that era like “Sunny Cellophane Skies”, and “Technicolour Dreams”. Some nice guitar work is heard on “Umleitung” and “Something’s Going On In My Head”. Some of the more ballad type songs remind me of The Bee Gees with their harmonies on the songs “Are You Growing Tired Of My Love”, “Antique Angelina” and “Nothing At All”. A couple blues songs “Lazy Poker Blues” and “Spinning Wheel Blues” are also included. Another really good compilation record from the series. Status Quo were the first band to play at the U.K.’s Live Aid concert and are still active today with one original member, Francis Rossi.
