Sonic Youth-Murray Street

I bought this record in 2002 when it was released at the West Reading store. The only Sonic Youth album I had on vinyl untill the 2015 reissues. Murray Street in where their NYC studio Echo Canyon was located. The girls on the cover are Kim and Thurston’s daughter and her friend. This is the first record with Jim O’Rourke as a fifth member. Unlike their last album NYC Ghosts & Flowers, which was more experimental, this one is more Rock oriented. “The Empty Page” has Kim Gordonn actually singing unlike her usual speaking/yelling. “Disconnection Notice” and “Rain On Tin” are two of my favorite Sonic Youth tunes. “Karen Revisited” and “Sympathy For The Strawberry” have some of their trademark experimentation but only a bit of feedback noise, the rest is more mellow and listenable. “Plastic Sun” is a typical Kim Gordon song. Their best record since Dirty.
