In 1973 Todd formed the band Utopia and put out Utopia albums as well as solo albums well into the 80’s. This is their first release and one I bought in 1974 as soon as I saw it at the record store. Another long player at just under 60 minutes the production is great as usual. A very Progressive record with two keyboard players plus a synthesizer player, Todd’s guitar plus drums and bass this largly instrumental record has their own Prog sound. The first track “Utopia” was recorded live in Atlanta, the other three in studio. Followed by “Freak Parade” and “Freedom Fighters” this was the side I listened to the most. The one song on side two is called “The Ikon” and is over 30 minutes long. With three different vocal sections the song is an instrumental tour de force ,just when you think it is over they head off in another direction. Quite an amazing piece of music. The records sounds good and despite the long running time it doesn’t sound compressed.
