Renaissance ws formed in 1969 by Keith Relf and Jim McCarty of The Yardbirds with Keith’s sister Jane taking the vocals. They put out two albums and then broke up. The members of this original line-up reformed in 1976 after Keiths death under the name Illusion and put out two albums. Renaissance reformed in ’72 with no original members. This time led by pianist John Tout ,bass player Jon Camp ,acoustic guitarist Michael Dunford and singer Annie Haslam who has an amazing high octive voice. This is the second album from the new line-up. This piano based blend of Progressive,Folk,Rock, and Classical is my favorite album by them. Released in 1973 the record contains two long songs “Can You Understand?” with a great piano introduction and “Ashes Are Burning” featuring Annies amazing voice and a great electric guitar fade out by Wishbone Ash’s Andy Powell. These two songs were staples on FM radio back then and were played many times on WMMR and my High School radio station. “At The Harbor” and “Carpet Of The Sun” are more Folk sounding and are also quite good. My friend had this record when I was in high school and we played it many times. This is a used one I bought,a first issue, about twenty years ago. It’s in fair shape.
