Procol Harum-The Collection

Yet another one from The Collector Series this 1985 release is a German import. Not sure when I bought this. It’s a pretty good collection , offering 20 songs from their first nine albums covering the years 1967-1975. It has their two big top 40 hits “Whiter Shade Of Pale” ,with Matthew Fisher’s distinctive organ, and “Conquistador”,recorded live with a symphony orchestra. Also there are songs I remember hearing on FM raio back in the 70’s “Homburg”,”A Salty Dog”,”Grand Hotel” and “Pandora’s Box”. Some of the songs I like best are “The Devil Came From Kansas”,”Shine On Brightly”,”Toujours L’Amour” and the three taken from the Broken Barricades album, the title track,”Power Failure” and “Simple Sister”. The record focuses on their more mellow piano driven songs. I would have liked it to include more of their more rocking songs with Robin Trowers guitar like “Whiskey Train” “Still There’ll Be More” or “Memorial Drive” Also missing is their 60’s European hit “Kaleidescope” and their epic “In Hell ‘Twas In I”.
