The Pretenders-The Pretenders

Their great debut album from 1979. American Chrissie Hynde moved to London and was involved in the Punk scene before forming The Pretenders with three musicians from Hereford,James Honeyman-Scott,Pete Farndon, and Martin Chambers. . I bought this record in 1980 while living in an apartment in Claymont Delaware. The first song I heard from them was the single “Brass In Pocket” on the radio when I was living en West Wilmington. Lots of great songs on this record. “Precious” and “Tatooed Love Boys” are two agressive songs with great live versions on the 1979 album The Concert For Kampuchea. “Stop Your Sobbing” is A Kinks cover and “The Wait” is another rocker. Side two starts with “Kid” a more mellow song followed by the reggae influenced “Private Life”. “Brass In Pocket” is followed by another slower song “Lovers Of Today” and te record closes with the amazing “Mystery Achievement” The most rocking song on the record with Honeyman-Scott playing some great guitar. The record still sounds great with no noticable scratchiness.
