Nektar-Down To Earth

This is their fifth album from late 1974. This is one I had on cassette. Not sure when In bought it,probably sometime in the 80’s. I bought this used album about ten years ago. Another concept album with songs dealing with life in a circus. Hawkwind associate Robert Calvert plays the Ringmaster introducing some of the songs in a heavy German accent. The music is less Progressive than their other records.more basic Rock. “Astral Man” is about a high wire artist while the instrumental “Nelly The Elephant”,the most Progressive sounding track , with its bass, guitar, and organ sounding very Pink Floyd-like. “Show Me The Way” and “That’s Life” are great songs although certainly not progressive. “Fidgety Queen” and “Oh Willy” are Rockers and “Little Boy” is a nice acoustic number with backing vocals by P.P. Arnold, the American singer. A good record but I prefer the more Progressive A Tab In The Ocean.
