Nazareth-Loud’N’Proud

Original

This came out in late’73 or early’74 when I bought it. A great Hard Rock record and one I played a lot back then. Side one is awesome with “Go Down Fighting”,”Not Faking It”,”Turn On Your Receiver”,the Little Feat song “Teenage Nervous Breakdown” and “Free Wheeler” a song I loved to turn up the volume on. Love the long, long fadeout with the guitar and woodblock percussion. Side two starts with another cover ,Joni Mitchell’s “This Flight Tonight”, that I heard long before the original. The only ballad on the record “Child In The Sun” leads to the epic nine minute cover of Dylan’s “The Ballad Of Hollis Brown. It’s a dirge with pounding bass and drums with scary synthesizer sounds that builds to a climax as “I spent my last lone dollar on them seven shotgun shells” and he procedes to shoot his wife, five children and himself. I have never heard the original. A grea record but pretty much unknown. They had their biggest claim to fame with their next record.
