Joni Mitchell-Hejira

Original

This is my favorite Joni Mitchell record. I remember buying this one in 1976. After getting off work at the steakhouse I walkedf to the Sears down the road and bought it and then walked home. A little over a mile I guess. Again many of the songs are about her failed relationships and a road trip she made in early 1976. Four of the songs feature Jaco Pastorius on bass. “Song For Sharon” at eight and a half minutes long was one of my go to songs to listen to when I came home from partying and under the influence of whatever drugs I was on. Seems like a strange choice but I remember putting it on many times in my bedroom upstairs. Perhaps it was the spacey sounding bass or Joni’s lush guitar but it always sounded good. I would usually let the whole side play and really came to love those four songs. That song plus “Black Crow”,”Blue Motel Room” and “Refuge Of The Road” are all on my playlist as well as “Coyote” on side one. The other four songs on side one ,which I hardly ever played, were not to familiar with except “Furry Sings The Blues” which I had heard on the radio. The three other songs on that side sounded a bit like “Song For Shaon” to me. Along with Blue and Court and Spark this is considered one of her best albums. The record is not in the best of shape. I’ll be looking for a replacement.
