Paul McCartney & Wings-Band On The Run

Original

This record came out in December of 1973 and is considered the best by Wings. The album was recorded in Nigeria with the trio of Paul and Linda plus Denny Laine. The single “Helen Wheels” was relesed in October prior to the album and is one of the most rocking songs on the record. The song was not on the U.K. edition of the record but was put on the U.S. version. Two other singles ,”Band On The Run” and “Jet” did very well on the charts. Side one was what I usually listened to with the two singles and the songs “Bluebird”,”Mrs. Vanderbilt”,that have some sax, and the last song “Let Me Roll It”. I never listened to side two much because I didn’t like the songs “Mamunia”,”No Words” and “Picasso’s Last Words(Drink To Me)” although the other two songs “Helen Wheels” and “Nineteen Hundred And Eighty Five” were songs I did like. I do remember the day I bought this record. There was a new record store that opened up in Wilmington called The Gooseberry Sanitarium and I pressured my dad to take me there one night. My dad and mom,who went along for the ride, went to the store. I remember purple was the dominate color of the store. My mother said it smelled like pot. Anyway, after buying the record it started snowing on the way home and the car slid into a ditch about half a block from our house. My mother walked back to the house to get my brothers and we were able to push the car out. I don’t remember ever going back to that store and I don’t think it was therevery long. The record is a little scratchy,as it was played hundred of times but no skips.
