Journey-Journey

Original

This is their first album from 1975. Comprised of San Francisco area musicians Gregg Rolie and Neal Schon who were in Santana,Ross Valory, and drummer Aynsley Dunbar. George Tickner who had been in the 60’s band Frumious Bandersnatch with Valory played rhythm guitar on this first album before dropping out. I heard this record playing in the record department of a store, probably the old Almart that used to be at the Concord Mall in Wilmington in 1975. I asked the employee there what it was and bought it on the spot. Quite different from the Steve Perry led band this is more straight rock with some Jazz leanings. There are two 6 minute plus instrumentals on this record “Kohoutek” and “Topaz” featuring some awesome guitar by Neal Schon who played second guitar to Carlos in Santana. Gregg Rolie plays keyboards and is the singer, the same role he had in Santana.”To Play Some Music” was released as a single but went nowhere. “Of A Lifetime” and Mystery Mountain”are both really good Rocking songs. Cover and record are both in decent shape. one skip in the opening seconds of “Of A Lifetime”.
