This is from 1973 and another one I bought with my first and only paycheck in the summer of 1974. Besides the three they are joined by Johnny Barbata,Papa John Creach, and new guitarist Craig Chaquico. These six plus Pete Sears would become Jefferson Starship the following year. This is a very good record with no less than four songs on my playlist for listening to at work and in the car. They are “Flowers Of The Night”, a song about revolutionaries, with lead guitar from Craig Chaquico who plays in the same style as Jorma Kaukonen but with a different tone,”Harp Tree Lament” with lyrics by Robert Hunter,”White Boy(Transcaucasian Airmachine Blues)” and “Sketches Of China”.”Fat” features vocals by The Pointer Sisters,Jorma Kaukonen and Jack Cassady play on “Your Mind Has Left Your Body”. “Across The Board” is another song about sex written by Slick. It’s a real vocal workout with her really belting out some lyrics. Jerry Garcia plays lead guitar on most of the tracks. Mickey Hart adds percussion and David Crosby sings harmony vocals on the title track. I prefer side two but both are enjoyable. Cover and record are in fair shape.
