This was the first with the new line-up of Kantner,Kaukonen,Cassady, and Slick with new drummer Joey Covington, and violin player Papa John Creach already in his 50’s at the time. Released in September of ’71 this was the first on their own Grunt label. Not sure when I bought this one, probably ’74 or ’75. It came wrapped in a paper grocery type bag and I wondered what was inside. Maybe a sexy picture of Grace Slick?. No,a fish head. Though panned by critics, listening to this ,and I hadn’t played in in a long time,it doesn’t sound too bad. “Feel So Good” is a great song ,written and sung by Jorma Kaukonen sounding like a Hot Tuna song with some awesome guitar, and Jack Cassady’s bass. “Pretty As You Feel” is another good song with Carlos Santana adding some guitar and Covington adding some low vocals t the chorus. The instrumental “Wild Turkey” ends side one with Jorma and Papa John trading licks on guitar and violin. Side two is a little strange with Slick singing in German on “Never Argue With A German If You’re Tired Or European Song” followed by “Thunk” sung a cappella. It does have “Third Week In The Chelsea” an acoustic Kaukonen song that I saw Hot Tuna perform when I saw them in 2017. The last song “War Movie” by Kantner is another one of his Science Fiction themed songs. Another record not in very good shape but no skips. At some point the lyric sheet was lost.
