Keith Jarrett-Death And The Flower

This one is from 1975 on Impulse Records. This is one I had on a five CD box set called The Impulse Years that had all his releases on Impulse on it. The main piece on this is the title track a 22 minute composition that takes up side one. It starts with some quiet percussion instruments and wood flute played by Jarrett before Charlie Hayden’s bass is added to the mix. Kieth’s piano is used sparingly in the track with Dewey Redman’s sax taking a prominent role. The ten minute “Prayer” is a quiet pastoral sounding piece that might be called New Age music today. The final track “Great Bird” is a more mainstream Jazz composition. A pretty good record but I don’t like it as much as Expectations. Another used one I bought in the last five years.
