Keith Jarrett is a Jazz pianist from Allentown. He is one of my favorite Jazz musicians and I had many of his recordings on cassette tape and CD. After selling them I have bought every vinyl album of his I could find. This is a 2014 album I bought new of “standards” with longtime collaborator Charlie Hayden on bass. They play songs by Rodgers and Hammerstein,Ira Gershwin,Cole Porter,and Thelonious Monk among others. The nine songs on this double album average around nine minutes so there is plenty of improvisation. This music might be described as Lounge music or something you might hear in a club in the 40’s or 50’s.It all sounds pretty much the same and is nice as background music but I prefer his original compositions better. This is one of his last albums as he suffered a stroke in 2018 leaving him partially paralyzed.
