Tommy James-The Best Of Tommy James& The Shondells

Original

Another one of my first records. This was one of the free ones I got when I joined the Colombia House Record Club with my sister in late ’70 or early ’71. This came out in late 1969 on Roulette Records. It has all his hits including the number one”Hanky Panky” released in 1966 and their more psychedelic pop songs like “Ball Of Fire”,”Sugar On Sunday”,”Sweet Cherry Wine”, and my two favorites “Crystal Blue Persuasion” that I remember singing to myself in 1969 when we were living in Wyomissing, probably has something to do with drug use, and the wonderful “Crimson & Clover” a number one hit and is the five and a half minute album version, not the edited single version. Joan Jett covered this song and it is on her best of album I will be listening to sometime in August. A record that’s 50 years old and still sounds good,no scratchiness or skips but it does sound a little worn out,it was played a lot. The gatefold cover is not in such good shape. It’s ben a while since I listened to this one. “Crimson & Clover” and “Crystal Blue Persuasion” are on my playlist for work and travel.
