Iron Butterfly-Metamorphosis

This was released in 1970 just three months after their live album with new members Mike Pinera and Larry Reinhardt replacing guitarist Eric Brann. This is one I bought for a dollar and is not in very good shape. First time listening to it,it’s not too bad of an album.”Slower Than Guns” ,an acoustic number, and “Stone Believer” on side one are pretty good. Side two has the 14 minute “Butterfly Bleu” that is a Blues sounding song that I liked with a bit of weirdness with a talk box,one of the earliest uses of that device, in the middle of the song. After this record Reinhardt and Lee Dorman left for their own group Captain Beyond and the band broke up. Re-formed in 1975 with Ron Bushy and the returning Eric Brann and new bass and keyboard players. They put out two records that year. I used to own Sun and Steel, their last record, which had one of my favorite Iron Butterfly songs “Scorching Beauty” which strangely is not on their record called Scorching Beauty released in early ’75. They have had many reunions through the years, I saw them about twenty years ago on a bill with some other 70’s groups Jefferson Starship and Spirit among them. I think Bushy,Dorman,Brann, and Ingle were in the band. Dorman,Brann, and Reinhardt have since passed away.
