In 1980 Steve Marriott and drummer Jerry Shirley re-formed the band with Bobby Tench, who had been in The Jeff Beck Group, sharing vocals and guitar with Marriott. Anthony Jones was the new bass player. This is another album I taped off the radio in 1980 and I bought this used cutout about 20 years ago. It’s a Bluesy Rock record,no long guitar solos, most of the songs are in the four minute range and it doesn’t sound too bad. Side one has the best three songs all written by Marriott or Marriott and other members of the band. “Fool For A Pretty Face” the first and best song was released as a single. Two other good songs on side one are “Take It From Here” and “Savin’ It” a Funky number with some uncredited sax. Side two has the usual R&B covers they love,”Baby Don’t You Do It” a hit for Marvin Gaye,”My Lover’s Prayer” by Otis Redding, sung by Tench whose voice sounds much like Marriotts, and one by Allen Toussaint. “Further Down The Road”,a group effort, is the most Rocking song on the side and is also a good one. This lineup put out one more record in 1981 and broke up again. Steve Marriott died in a fire at his home in England reportedly falling asleep with a lit cigarette after a night of drinking and cocaine use in 1991. He an Peter Frampton had been working on a reunion album at the time.
