Howlin’ Wolf-The London Howlin’Wolf Sessions

This was recorded in 1970 and released in 1971. This is a numbered copy of 3500 that was issued on Record Store Day in 2018. It’s a realy nice re-issue on heavy cardboard. The figures on this gatefold cover look like stickers or colorforms that you could peel off and move. Don’t know if the original release was like that. With help from English Rock Stars like Eric Clapton,Steve Winwood,Ringo Starr,Bill Wyman,Charlie Watts, and Ian Stewart, the 6th Stone. A great blues record he sings some of his songs like “Sittin’ On Top Of The World”,”Who’s Been Talkin'”,that sounds exactly like Fleetwood Mac’s “I Loved Another Woman” but with slightly different words, and “Rockin’ Daddy”. Also on the record are some great Willie Dixon tunes like “I Ain’t Superstitious”,”The Red Rooster”,”Built For Comfort”,and “Wang Dang Doodle” with some great guitar by Clapton. Another song I recognized was “What A Woman!” that I first heard on Stevie Ray Vaughn’s live album under the title “I’m Leaving You(Commit A Crime)” credited to Chester Burnett(Howlin’ Wolfs real name). On this record it is credited to James Oden. Burnett wrote some of the best blues songs like “Smokestack Lighntin'”,Killing Floor”,and “Spoonful” 60 years old at the time of these recordings he sounds great. He died in 1976.
