The Jimi Hendrix Experience-Electric Ladyland

Released in 1968 this was the third and last studio album before his death. This was their best seller and my favorite. A double album, this has a wide range of styles and sounds. Side one has the soul of “Have You Ever Been(To Electric Ladyland)” and “Crosstown Traffic” and the nearly 15 minute blues jam “Voodoo Chile” with Steve Winwood playing organ and Jack Cassidy on bass. “Burning Of The Midnight Lamp” has his wah-wah pedal in good use and side three is a 17 minute suite of three songs that all flow together with the 13 minute “1983(A Merman I Should Turn To Be)” the centerpiece with Chris Wood playing some flute. Side four ends with two of his best songs “Dylan’s “All Along The Watchtower” and “Voodoo Child(Slight Return)”. Another amazing record from Hendrix and one I bought new in the early 80’s. The U.K. release had the naked women on it but I guess it was too risque in the U.S. at that time.
