Hawkwind-Astounding Sounds Amazing Music

I must confess that because I was listening to Hawkwind this week I went to the record store to see if I could find a copy of Space Ritual the live album I used to have on CD. I had seen it in the store I went to before but they did not have it then. Instead I bought two used records from the ’70’s. This was one of them,an original U.K. pressing for $15. The record and cover are in like new condition. I had never heard this album before which came out in 1976. A very different sound than their last record Warrior on the Edge of Time. Gone is Lemmy to be replaced by Paul Rudolph who was fired after this release along with drummer Alan Powell. Robert Calvert rejoined the band at this time to take over lead vocals. A departure from their previous sound of throbbing space rock, the record has some almost Jazzy instrumental breaks with Nik Turner’s sax. An interesting record I will have to listen to again.
