The Sensational Alex Harvey Band-SAHB Stories

original

They are a band from Scotland led by Alex Harvey. This is their sixth record from 1976. It’s another import from the U.K. I bought around 1977. I first heard the song “Sirocco” on the radio and taped it on my 8-track recorder I had at the time from the radio. The band was much into theatrics with guitar player Zal Cleminson painting his face like a mime. The songs on this record are often comical like a lot of his music almost like novelty songs. Side one has “Dance To Your Daddy”,”Sirocco” and a cover of Jerry Reed’s “Amos Moses” sung in Harvey’s distinctive Scottish accent. Side two has the single “Boston Tea Party” “The Sultans Choice” and $25 For A Massage” all pretty good songs but in Harvey’s unusual style. I always liked the gatefold cover of people sitting at a bar, including members of the band and characters from the songs, reflected in the mirror behind the bar.
