Fleetwood Mac-Then Play On

original

This was their third album released in 1969. The U.S.version I have is from 1970. It deleted some tracks from the U.K. version and added “Oh Well” that was a single at the time. I bought this after hearing that song on the radio around 1972 and is one of my earliest records. This is probably my favorite Fleetwood Mac record although Penguin and Rumors are right up there too.Every song on the record is great, some highlights are the previously mentioned “Oh Well” in two parts. The first part, a three minute rock song, is known to most people while the second part is an acoustic piece with guitar, cello, and piano that sounds sometimes like a Gypsy dance. The moody “Closing My Eyes” also on side one is another favorite. Side two has the two instrumentals “Searching For Madge” and “Fighting For Madge” edited down from a long studio jam. They show of Peter Green’s excellent guitar work.”Rattlesnake Shake” a song about sexual self gratification is another rocker, while Danny Kirwan’s ” Like Crying” is in the style of Country Blues. Peter Green left the group after this record. After taking a lot of LSD he became somewhat of a recluse for most of the 70’s. In 1997 he formed Peter Green Splinter Group, putting out some records, one of which I have on CD,of Blues music. He died earlier this year. The cover of this record is in fair shape, the record is a little scratchy but no skips. Rhino Records released a two record version of the album in 2013 with the original U.K. tracks with four bonus tracks including “Oh Well” that I will buy if I ever come across it.
