Faces-Live

This live album billed as Rod Stewart and Faces was released in early 1974. Ronnie Lane left before this final tour and was replaced by Tetsu Yamauchi who had been in Free previously. They play only three Faces songs, all Stewart/Wood compositions, the rest are from Rod’s solo albums and various covers. Side one’s “Cut Across Shorty” was always a favorite of mine and the two Faces songs on the side “Too Bad” and “Stay With Me” are also pretty good. They also cover Hendrix’s “Angel”. Side two has covers of “I Wish It Would Rain” and the blues classic “I’d Rather Go Blind”,followed by a nearly ten minute “Borstal Boys” that features some extended guitar work from Ron Wood. The record closes with an unlikely cover of Lennon’s “Jealous Guy”.The band broke up after this tour with Wood joining The olling Stones and Kenny Jones joining The Who. Ronnie Lane died from MS in ’97 and Ian McLagan in 2014 from a stroke. Of course like so many bands from the 70’s they briefly re-formed for some live shows with Mike Hucknall, from Simply Red,taking the vocal duties. This is a used copy I bought in 2019 for $8. The cover and record are in like new condition.
