After Steve Marriott left the Psychedelic/Pop band Small Faces to form Humble Pie with Peter Frampton the three remaining members recruited Rod Stewart and Ron Wood, fresh from their gig with Jeff Beck, to take his place. The first Faces record, misnamed Small Faces on the U.S.release came out in 1970.A good collection of down and dirty Rock-n-Roll it sounds very Stoneslike. “Flying” the lead track on side two is a song I remember hearing on the radio back in the day. Side two also has two instrumentals and “Three Button Hand Me Down”. Side one starts with a rocking cover of Dylan’s “Wicked Messenger” and ends with “Around The Plynth” sounding much like “Hats Off To Roy Harper” from Led Zeppelin III, released the same year. Ronnie Lane’s “Stone” is just annoying to me. This record I have is a 2016 reissue of the U.S. release on orange vinyl.
