Drive-by-Truckers-Go-Go Boots

This was released in early 2011 and contains the rest of the tracks recorded in 2009 that weren’t on The Big To-Do album. Not quite as rocking as that record it’s a little more soulful. Cooley’s songs are all acoustic and not his best. Some of Hood’s songs are even a bit uplifting like “Mercy Buckets” the last song on the record. The rest are the usual dark songs like “Ray’s Automatic Weapon” and “The Thanksgiving Filter”. Two of the songs “Go-Go Boots” and “The Fireplace Poker” seem to be the same story,a preacher having his wife killed,as is “The Wig He Made Her Wear” from The Big To-Do. “I Used To Be A Cop” one of his best songs is the only Trucker song I have ever heard on the radio. The record is also a tribute of sorts to Eddie Hinton. As Patterson relates in the liner notes Hinton was a Muscle Shoals musician and good friend of his father David, that Patersn met when he was a kid. They cover two of his songs “Everybody Needs Love” and “Where’s Eddie” a semi hit for Lulu in 1969 that Shonna sings lead on. Her two songs on the record I didn’t like much. After the release of this record she left the band to try a solo carer.
