Drive-By-Truckers-The Big To -Do

Another great record from 2010. These songs were recorded in 2009 and they were enough for two records, the rest appearing on Go-Go- Boots. With Hood writing 9 of the 14 songs the record is pretty rocking. His songs have the usual themes of Southern crime, working man’s troubles. Some of the best are “The Fourth Night Of My Drinking”,”Daddy Learned To Fly”,”Girls Who Smoke”,and “This Fucking Job”,my favorite on the record. Of Cooley’s three songs “Eyes Like Glue” a sad acoustic song is the best. “Birthday Boy” is OK and “Get Downtown” has a rockabilly sound to it. Shonna Tucker contributes two songs of which “You Got Another” is the best. It starts out slow but picks up at the end. There is a nice long guitar fade out on “The Wig He Made Her Wear” another one of Hood’s true crime stories.
