This was recorded at The Filmore East in 1970 and was released in 1973. I bought it in ’74 or ’75. This is Eric Clapton at his best. The four members had previously played with Delaney & Bonnie And Friends. Playing songs from his first solo record which is essentially the Dominos and the first and only album from Derek & The Dominos, there are nine songs on two records. Side one which has been played hundreds of times starts off with “Why Does Love Got To Be So Sad”, from Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs, and is followed by “Got To Get Better In A Little While” that has some sweet solos by Clapton. He is backed by the cooking rhythm section of Carl Radle and Jim Gordon. Side two has “Let It Rain” with a 6 minute drum solo by Jim Gordon, and “Presence Of The Lord”. Side three starts with “Tell The Truth” another standout track with a pounding rhythm dominated by Bobby Whitlock’s piano. The record ends with the slow Blues of “Have You Ever Loved A Woman”. One of my favorite live albums, Eric’s playing is fluid, sounding a bit like Duane Allman who played on the Layla Album. A couple of skips on side four but otherwise the record sounds good.
