A compilation of traditional music from Norway, Sweden and Finland. The music sounds very much like the traditional music of the British Isles. 8 of the 15 tracks are instrumental featuring fiddle, accordion, keyed fiddle and some kind of percussion. “Riverside Aby” by Karen Tweed and Timo Alakotila adds piano to the mix. All vocals are by women (and not in English) except “Bamboo Honey” by Wimme who chants in a traditional Finnish style sounding like American Indians with electronic Ambient music in the background. My favorite was “Viridissima Virga”( Greenest Branch) by Garmarna a traditional song with electronic dance type music and the lovely vocals of Emma Hardelin. Also liked “Malort” by Hoven Droven with a more Rock sound. Really nice music. I also have vol. 2 but decided on this one because it had the longer songs.
