Various Artists-Goth Box

From Cleopatra Records. Released in 1996. 4 CDs in a double Fatbox case with 40 page booklet with bios and photos of the bands plus a poster of the cover. I had about 20 Goth CDs, quite a lot being compilations like this box set. I put on Disc 1 starting with “Boys” by Bauhaus one of the first bands to get the Goth name. “Control” by The Wake from Ohio is one I liked. “Tongue Of Fire” by Gitane Demone formally of Christian Death is another one I liked. My favorite on this CD is “Cantique 1” by French band Die Form. The song combines electronics with the operettic vocals of Eliane P. This was taken from a compilation CD of their called Viscous Circles that I ended up ordering from Cleopatra Records. I still have that CD. Songs by Fahrenheit 45 and Executive Slacks blur the lines between Gothic and Industrial music. “Temple” by Finnish band The Shadow Dance has a lush Darkwave sound. “Lookaway My Love” by Advent Sleep a band from the Harrisburg Pa. area is another typical Gothic song that I liked. Some bands on the other three discs that I had CDs of were Christian Death, Switchblade Symphony and Alien Sex Fiend.
