I was in the mood for some good old Grateful Dead, so I put this CD on. This is on Relix Records. These are mostly Grateful Dead type bands that are on their label. I also have volumes 2 and 4 but this one has the most jamming. Joe Gallant’s Illuminati sounds good on “The Music Never Stopped” as does The Juggling Suns, who I saw in a bar in Birdsboro about 10 years ago, with “Eyes Of The World. Solar Circus does a 29 minute suite of “Dark Star>The Other One>El Paso>The Other One>Dark Star. Also on here are Dead Ringers doing “Cumberland Blues” and Toni Brown singing “Morning Dew”. Kim Simmonds of Savoy Brown covers “Little Red Rooster” That The Grateful Dead Play occasionally. I enjoyed this so much I decided to listen to a few tracks from volumes 2 and 4. Hot Tune covers “Death Don’t Have No Mercy”, a live acoustic performance from the early 70’s with Jorma Kaukonen singing and playing acoustic guitar and Pappa John Creach on violin. The New Riders of the Purple Sage sing “Friend Of The Devil”. Both are on volume 2. Vol. 4 has a 12 minute “Not Fade Away” with Jorma Kaukonen and Grateful Dead members Donna Jean Godchaux and Tom Constantine. Merl Sanders who sometime sat in with The Grateful Dead plays keyboards.
